Rage Gardening vs. Happy Gardening

By: Chris | Last Updated: June 5, 2021

The words we accept into our vocabulary play a significant role in shaping how we think and perceive the world both consciously and unconsciously. Since the 1980s, the use of negative words like rage and hate has been steadily increasing. It is unfortunate to think my generation, and subsequent generations have been taught to use these words through popular culture and education.

Such words, no matter how innocuous they may seem, creep into our subconscious and begin to frame the way we see, feel, and interact with the world around us.

Take a moment to consider the definition of the word rage. There is very little about this word that is healthy, yet it has become popular to proclaim that you’re a “rage cleaner” or a “rage baker” or a “rage gardener”. Are you an uncontrollably violent and angry person when you do these things?

Are You Into Rage Gardening?

If you think yourself to be among the “rage crew”, I would ask you to consider this perspective. If you could be a peaceful gardener, would you prefer that? If you could be a happy gardener, wouldn’t that also be wonderful? Would you prefer peacefulness, happiness, and love instead of rage?

If you prefer happiness, why would you title yourself with rage? If the words we use can shape our perspective, I choose to be a happy gardener. If happy gardening becomes your mantra, you’re leading your unconscious mind toward the path of happiness and positivity.

Don’t believe in any of this? I get it, they’re just words. Are the words you use of your own choosing, or are they words the internet, social media, and Hollywood told you to use because they’re popular or trending? Personally, I’d rather choose my own words.

What is Rage Gardening?

Rage gardening actually has nothing to do with rage. In fact, it is quite the opposite. An exercise in mindfulness, an escape from the stressors in life, and a path for improved mental clarity and health.

Gardening heals your soul, nourishes your body, and helps you find purpose beyond self.

You feel the dirt on your hands, smell the aroma of the plants, lovingly provide care, and blissfully enter the sacred healing world of selflessness. You are focused outwardly, intent on caring for something beyond yourself. All your troubles melt away, and for that moment in the garden, you have reached a state of bliss and being. You are living happiness and love.

When you choose a negative name for a positive experience, your path to happiness is distorted. With this in mind, I reject the idea of rage gardening and choose to embrace happy gardening.

There is Happiness and Love

Fortunately, negative words aren’t the only words that have been on the rise since the 1980s. Other, more powerfully positive words like heal, happy, love, and wonderful have been on the rise in our vocabulary as well.

Those are the people I want to surround myself with. The “happy gardeners” and the “wonderful people”. These are the words I allow to shape my vocabulary and mental outlook.

We are bombarded by a world full of negativity and stressors. When we choose to use positive words, we force our minds to find the good in all things.

You Can Have the Last Word

If it’s only a word, choose a happy one. You might not get as many likes or follows for your new hashtag on Instagram, but then again maybe you’ll get even more. It’s your choice. Choose words that describe you.

I am not a psychologist, psychiatrist, or any other kind of mental health professional, but I am a happy gardener. I hope you’ll choose to be one too!
